Welcome to our Church

We are the San Francisco parish of the Malankara Orthodox Church. Growing over the last decade, ours is a community united by a mix of faithful-orthodoxy and fun-fellowship. Our Church facility is in Union City, a central location to the entire SF Bay Area.

Our full-time Vicar, Fr Joseph Kalapurayil leads the congregation in Sunday Mass and prayers. Besides Malayalam, Qurbana is celebrated in English once a month. With Bible classes after worship on Fridays and member-hosted Prayer meetings on Saturdays, our faithful have many opportunities to congregate.

Sunday School classes are full of activities, for spiritual learning and fun for the kids. Other organizations: Martha Mariam Samajam (Women’s group), OCYM (Youth movement) and MGOCSM (Student movement), organize activities for relief & aid, community outreach, charity and internal community development.

Contact us or join us for worship.

THEOTOKOS – THE MOTHER OF GOD

(As we plan to celebrate the Assumption Feast of St. Mary this Sunday (Aug.15), preceded by two weeks fast; it is good to learn about the teaching of the Orthodox Church on St. Mary, the Mother of God. My attempt is to briefly unfold the doctrinal teachings about the Most Holy Virgin Mary in accordance with the Holy Scriptures and the writings of the holy and God-inspired Fathers of the Church of the first centuries of Christianity. )

HER TITLE

What is a Liturgical Year?

Our liturgical year is expressed as a calendar, much like the secular calendar. From ancient times, man has been deeply tied to the seasonal cycles of the year. One year, is one revolution of earth in its orbit around sun, thus we have the monsoon rotation and various seasons. Orthodox worship proclaims the centrality of Christ. The starting point of the Christian system of feast was the commemoration of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. The Easter Sunday is thus the foundation of the Christian year.
